Open Houses Were a Huge Success

July 29, 2013

Thank you to all of the great people that came through during our open houses this past week.  We were glad to hear all of the well wishes and excitement towards our new clinic.  We are getting close to starting time, but first we must get our patients registered for care.  Patients can fill out an online application or show up to the clinic to fill out a paper copy on any of our registration days.  Registration dates and times can be found in both our contact as well as our eligibility and services pages.  Please refer to the same pages for information about our upcoming immunization days.  Starting on August 26th we will be opening our doors for our first day of seeing patients.  Please continue to spread the word to your friends and family members about the clinic, whether they are need of care or wish to support our mission.  Once again thank you to all of the great people that have made this dream, a reality for our community.

Volunteer with us!

July 24, 2013

The new volunteer application is online now and we welcome all persons interested in volunteering at the clinic to please sign-up today so we can start staffing the clinic for our registration and immunization days that start as early as August 6th!  Volunteer today to make a difference not only in our great community but in the lives and well being of our friends and neighbors.

We have plants, and lots of them, and a great crew from Master Gardeners to thank for them!

July 22, 2013

The great people from Master Gardeners were out today weeding, mulching and planting at the new clinic.  Through the rain these great people helped turn our weed ridden ground into a beautiful landscape.  The workers from Master Gardeners pictured appearing from left to right Susan Smith, Bob Smith, Kathy Smith and Donna Kelly.  Mel Kelly was also out today but is not pictured. Once again, much thanks to the great people from Master Gardeners!

Our Glass is Over Half Full!

July 22, 2013

That is right, no matter how you look at it, our glass is half full and continues to fill.  We only have 149K to go to meet our goal.  Everyone at the clinic is hard at work to prepare for our upcoming open house this weekend, July 28th from 1-4pm.  Please come out and continue to support the clinic as we prepare to open our doors for care.  If you are interested in donating please follow this link and as always thank you all for your continued support.

A Few Words From Dr. Mary Ludwig

July 21, 2013

Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,

My parents were born of Italian immigrants in small towns in New York State. They were married in 1925. I was born in 1926, my sister in 1929 and two other children in later years who both died in infancy. The depression had hit the area hard and they subsequently suffered a great deal for lack of jobs and the deaths of the two babies. My sister and I grew up aware of the hardships. She being three years younger did not understand them or realize why it happened. Little food, lack of medical care and no jobs available due to the depression, made me very aware of the hardships and pain that my parents underwent and those memories never left me. My parents’ deep faith in the goodness of God saw us through many difficult years together.

When the opportunity came to set up a free pediatric clinic in the Milligan Presbyterian church on Mill Street I was very excited and my husband and family were very supportive. The minister of the church, Reverend Charlotte Ho-Topp was very giving and pleased that her church would be used for this purpose. A group of eight women organized to form the Christian Nursing Service of which the free clinic was born. Volunteers were eager to help and the doors were open to the community in the fall of 1968. The community backed it, those in need used it, and volunteers kept the clinic alive and well.

A few years ago a few concerned citizens decided to raise the money to build a new clinic and make it a permanent gift to the community. The need for affordable medical care is stilt prevalent and a necessity for our most vulnerable families. In August 2013 the Dr. Mary Ludwig Montgomery County Free Clinic will open its doors and continue to serve this community. Financial support will always be needed to keep the clinic functioning. We pray that the community will continue its support of this endeavor.

Sincerely in Christ….Mary Ludwig

Please join us for the public open house at the Montgomery County Free Clinic on Sunday, July 28th from 1pm-4pm.  Come and support the clinic that Dr. Ludwig and many others have worked years to make a reality.
